Taken at the Astor's Beachwood Mansion in Newport, RI in 2000. Dress of new velveteen antique jet trim, lace, appiques, and embossed fabric. Took 45 hours to produce this dress.

Professionally done photo. I was young then. Soutache braid trim on jacket and overskirt and Garabaldi blouse. The drummer boy in another pict. in this album is in my lap. Children's footware impossible to get, forgive the baby shoes. Uncle from Germany standing behind us. We dressed him up and took him to his first Re-enactment. He loved IT!!!

Silk faille dress trimmed with velvet ribbon in 2 widths. Net tucker and net trim at sleeve cuffs. Dress not puffed out as confines were tight in the house, it was almost a standing room only affair. Taken at Robert Bennett Forbes House, Milton MA for Lincoln's 200th B'Day.

Gown of silk taffeta. Skirt copied from a fashion plate. Bow took 4 hours to draw free hand and fit to 180" skirt. I saved the template! Boy's suit adorned with braid and antique buttons.

Made of 100% light weight wool! It's fully lined, sheds the water upon exiting the ocean and only remains damp. Dries very fast. Only drawback is you smell like a wet sheep! White contrast trim tape also of wool.

Both of cotton which was the prized fabric of the time. White one has a sheer overlay of cotton and a silk sash. Bow on train allows gown to be managed without being trampled. Pink gown with trim and ruched bodice. Worn to The Jane Austin Ball

Mourning bonnet made of crape. Plain veil edged in crape. Dress cut in current fashion, ornamented with braid work, jet beads, jet antique buttons. Net undersleeves with velvet cuffs. Drummer boy uniform of wool recreated copying details from mass produced contract clothing. House in background is the Thayer House in Braintree MA.. He was known as the "Father of West Point".

Copied from a painting. Velveteen with reproduction cotton laces and pearls, with flocked flowers. Skirt I had done before on my wedding dress which has since been destroyed because it wasn't made of correct 19th century materials and I had boys so no one to pass it on to. Husband's evening suit I also made using originals as a guide.

Original copied from the Merchant House was brown silk taffeta. Pagoda sleeve, plain bodice with front hook closure and round bobble trim on bodice. The brown chair is from the 1860's and is in original condition and very usable. The chair I am sitting in needs major restoration.

Auntie in Half mourning due to the fact white collar and cuffs are worn and veil is not plain. Dress copied from a Godey's fashion plate. We hang around cemeteries a lot, but that happens when everyone you know is dead.

Double pointed waist, milk glass buttons, coat sleeve on a common day dress design. Taken on the grounds of Chase Farm, Lincoln RI. I guess I should be wearing yet another over the hoop petticoat - you can see the outline of the hoop and that was a look the "original cast" avoided.

Taken in Bridgwater Cemetery at Francis Davis Millet's grave marker. He perished in the sinking of the Titanic. Dress of silk and antique lace trim and beadwork. This was taken on our way to the "Titanic Ball" held in Newton MA by a vintage dance group who also hosts Civil War Balls.

Known as the "Civil War Room" Dressed and on the way to an historic event. This shot shows three walls of the room which is only about 12x12. Not a large room at all. From this angle it looks like a thrift shop, the room does not appear that cluttered when you are standing in it.

Just that tiny roof done up in red just helps to balance out the colors a bit more. The first roofing layer was green which then matched the white house at the time.

Window came out fantastic. The view into the yard has to be improved. 2 sections of the barns came down over the summer. It will take at least another summer or two to finish the yard, things were that gross out there.

Neighbor (awesome guy!) did the stairs and the rails with help. The rails match the original front porch and I had to wait months for the copies to come in. The wait was worth it. The mud room has not been roughed in yet. The lattice was for the dog's safety.

The old pressure treated steps which graced the back of the house for decades is now gone. I had the spindels from the front porch duplicated so the back stairs mimicked the front of the house. The lattice is there for the dog. It will be replaced when we rough in the mud room. I have an antique stained glass window and a door to restore to replace the current back door. Our wonderful neighbor did most of the complicated work, with help from us. We will help him on a project at his place now that this is done.

2009 Backyard and Pool. Second year here and the backyard is still landscaped in "Construction Site" motif. Guests have taken to wearing hard hats instead of bathing caps to the pool.

Pool 18x32. Worth every penny. Backyard still being dug up in places to regrade lumps and bumps. Backhoe digging in the new water line for the garden which was enlarged to 100'x 35'. One day we will have grass.

The bottom leg unpegs, lowering the table height from a counter height to an eating height.

There isn't tons of paint on it. I am guessing that the green is original. Wasn't this a popular color in the 30's??

I am guessing it is from the early to mid 20th century. But I am not sure.

Same style house with all the something extras added. This house accommodated one family for 83 years. At one point 3 generations co-existed together.

At the core and original layout they are the same. Because of the bathroom add ons our back doors are in different places. The pool is mine. Both tracts of land go off at a diagonal slant. Photo was taken from the North edge of my property.

My house and neighbor's from the side. You can see the differences. Mine has been messed with the minute original construction was done.

Taken from the most flattering angle. My porch is 90% original. Floor pressure treated wood, not T&G. (bad PO!) Storage area made over porch within the first few years of house's construction. Original house colors on clapboards in storage area hold only one coat of paint! My front upper story windows have been moved. My pantry is gone, the cellar door is in the hall. Different staircase (less steep, more stairs) than neighbor. First floor added on North side of house. Side stairs added. Add on in the back of kitchen was the bathroom. Portland Cement foundation shows circa 1900-10 for bathroom.

The neighbor's house. Basically unmuddled. The porch fell victim to new bldg codes..

Both houses were built by same person who plopped them onto a shared tract of land which was later equally divided. The house no longer has a kitchen pantry. The cellar door is located in the kitchen. Still have original woodwork, hardware, and closet on first floor,

$1,500 spruced up original bldg by a professional carpenter, I can at least look at the tool shed without resentment. BUT it cost $$$ because it wasn't done right the first time.

Part of a bigger antique quilt (circa 1860-90's) which had been cut in to sections by a previous owner. This covers the fuse box in the second floor hallway. This hall used to belong to bedroom on left. Door on right was original room's exit..

Finished antique quilt top (circa 1880-90's) I have had for ages. Did as little to it as possible so it could be restored back to original unfinished condition if need be. This hangs in hallway once belonging to bedroom on the right.

Rock maple rocker, found along with the card table. Seat needs replacing. Found that it had been refinished, as the underside shows a dark stain.

Repointing project in cellar. Old mortar has been removed (came out in chunks, so what's this about removing the first inch only??)), and ready for new s hydrated lime mortar.

Went after air leaks in the basement. Removed insulation to discover the sill the PO replaced doesn't even meet the foundation. You are looking through a 3/4 inch gap to the OUTSIDE!! 2x4's shimmed in places. This is the house that jerk built.

Water damaged subfloor. Loads of fun to fixing this one. The wood is not all solid, hubby put finger through it in places. Lots of extra holes because the PO swapped out the laundry room and the 1st floor bath. He didn't insulate around the pipes.

Joists which are less than 2" set upon a supporting wall can slip off. We got ourselves a nice borderline case here from the PO who was SUPPOSED to be a carpenter.

added more color to the porch. Now the reds aren't so overwhelming and the remaining details are brought to life. I now have 5 colors and have a PAINTED LADY!

Side and back of the house. All the bump outs on the back are additions to the building from 1920's to 1950 as far as I have been told by former owner.

Deck 90% finished. The plastic lattice is ugly and will be replaced by wood, painted to match the house.

Getting there. Took a bit over 900 bricks to complete. In the spirit of Old House Restoration we salvaged some bricks from a few demo sites and purchased the last 300 from a used brick yard.
